The objective of the Defence Museum is to inform the public, so that they, based on historical facts, are able to take stand when it comes to both previous and current military situations. The museum displays historical artefacts from the Middle age until the following years after the Second World War. The exhibitions show the Armed forces’ development and how the Armed forces, military thinking and the realities of war have been closely connected to technological, economical and political progress.

The Defence Museum was opened by His Majesty King Olav V on August 22nd 1978, and is located in a majestic brick building, an old armoury from 1860, at Akershus Fortress in Oslo.
